Mission Statement
The members of First Baptist Church of Georgetown, without reservation,
accept Jesus Christ
and His word, as their Guide, and have covenanted to obey
His teachings for the sake of
corporate unity. The object of First Baptist is to
proclaim Christ, and to teach and practice
Christianity as reflected in the New
Testament. The members aim to witness for Christ in word
and deed, and to
promote orderly and godly living. We realize that to evangelize in this age of
transition, we must evangelize in ways that support our mutual vision; to bring
all people to
know Jesus as Lord and Savior. Authentic evangelism presupposes
that Christians are disciples
who follow Christ with persistence in spite of
cost. We engage in activities that promote health
and well-being of the
congregation. We believe that an evangelistic congregation will announce
and
share the Good News of God in Christ; to seek to demonstrate God's rule of love
and justice;
call individuals to repentance, to confession, and to conversion in
the new life in Christ. First
Baptist aims to advance the cork of Christian
missions locally and abroad through various
channels and denominational
structures that espouse our objectives. Being Christ-oriented
and
cause-centered, we will develop creative programs and activities that
demonstrate the
Gospel by subscribing to the Church covenant. We will contribute
cheerfully and regularly
as God has prospered us, towards its expenses, for the
support of an evangelistic ministry
among us, for the relief of the poor and the
spread of the Gospel throughout our community
and world.
